Copy-paste via MSWord

Don't do it

When you copy text from MS Word the clipboard contains Word-ish formatting.  These are characters that are not displayed - they are hidden.  When you paste it into a content item using a WYSIWYG editor like JCE, the hidden formatting elements are also pasted into your Joomla! article.

Once in a while it works, but you can count on your site looking odd.  It is important to have your site look similar from one page to another - with the same formatting style.

Instead, do the following...

It involves extra steps, and a bit more time, but the results are more consistent (for your site's visitors).

  1. Highlight the text in MS Word
  2. Copy the text (Ctrl-C) to the clipboard
  3. Open Note Pad
  4. Paste the text into Note Pad (Ctrl-V)
  5. Highlight the text in Note Pad (Ctrl-A)
  6. Copy it into the clipboard - again - (Ctrl-C)
  7. Then paste it into the WYSIWYG editor (Ctrl-V)

Now you'll have to do the formatting again.  Be sure to use the drop down format selector in the editor for better and more consistent results.

After you do this a few times, it will become second hand and go quickly.

If you are using the Firefox browser, there is a very useful add in called "Copy as plain text"  Go to the firefox extension page to find it or click HERE.
